Great Scale Train Show – Notice from Bill

July 27, 2015 By Joe H.

Fellow Trackers:

I have wondered from time to time why the National Capital Trackers have not had
a display at the Great Scale Train Show, at Maryland State Fairgrounds in
Timonium. It is certainly one of the premier shows in the East, and I know they
have literally acres of space.

I did hear that last year they approached the Trackers, but there was reportedly
little interest. I do not know if they spoke to VA or MD members.

I see on their web site they are actively looking for more clubs to exhibit.

http://www.gsmts.com/

They have upcoming shows on Oct 24-25, 2015, Feb 6-7, 2016, and April 9-10
2016.

There was small show June 20-21, and I took some stuff over for the White
Elephant Table. While there, I met Scott Nichols, the Event Coordinator and
discussed how clubs participate. I had told Jack and some Maryland Trackers
about this in advance.

Scott was receptive, even eager for Trackers to participate. I know that an
honorarium has been expected from for-profit shows. He seemed open to the
possibility and also offered free table space to club members who wish to sell
during the show.

They who have the idea should be willing to help. Although I have not been
“Trackmaster trained,” I’d be willing to work with an approved Trackmaster to
help put on a show. FULL DISCLOSURE: I live about 3 miles from the Fairgrounds,
so it is easy for me to get there. At least one already-trained Trackmaster has
said he might be interested in working with me.

Some of the Maryland Trackers have responded to my previous emails, and there is
some interest. There are concerns with the dates, too. Conflicts with York, the
Super Bowl, winter weather, etc. have been raised. For some, Timonium is too far
to go.

So, I’d like to bring the idea to the entire club. I plan to be at the August
meeting to discuss. If you have interest or ideas and want to let me know
before then, please do so. email: wdhakk@gmail.com.

I’m hopeful there will be enough interest to do one or two (if not all) of the
shows.

See you on the O-Gauge Rails!
