Yesterday afternoon I met with the folks at the Timonium Great Scale Show. They
would very much like to have us at the February 6-7 show, 2016.
They offer an honorarium of $200, paid at the show..
Show hours are 9-5 on Saturday, 10-4 on Sunday. Friday afternoon/evening set-up
is available. Groups were setting up at my visit yesterday at 4:30 PM.
The venue is the cow palace, and space is almost unlimited. I showed them the
Kensington Layout, and they said there is more room for layouts even larger, if
we desire.
Of course, smaller is possible too.
There is a special discount rate of $69 a night at nearby Holiday Inn Express
Motel for train show attendees. Other inexpensive lodging, such as the Red Roof
Inn at $61 per night is nearby.
I have some other ideas as to how to help members who live a distance away. For
example, if you have modules in College Park or B&O, and do not plan to use them
until after February, I’d be willing to take them to my house after those shows
and store them in my crawl space. I’d then bring them to Timonium and set up.
That way people who live a long way away would only have to make one trip, on
Sunday for take down. If there are members who have bare modules, I have enough
Scenery for perhaps 2-3 additional modules.
Ed Beaver and Dave Sealing have expressed willingness to work with me since I
have never been a trackmaster.
The only thing we would need to do is send the show operators a formal email
notifying them of our plan to exhibit. I’ll do that upon approval from the
president, or the president could do it directly. Just let me know.
The contact person for the show is Scott Nichols, scarternichols@hotmail.com.
410-212-6053 He is the Event Coordinator.
Show web site is www.gsmts.com.
I will be at the show today and tomorrow. AM today, Oct. 24, and in the
afternoon Sunday October 25. If any Tracker plans or wants to attend the show
this weekend, I can revise times if necessary. I know York is just ending, but
do we EVER get enough trains? There is LOTS of Lionel and other O Gauge at the
show now. Some GREAT buys on the white elephant table as well. I put some of
them there.
Ed and Dave, perhaps we could set up a meeting in the future to discuss possible
track layouts. I’d be glad to host. Any Tracker would be welcome. I know snow is
possible, but snow is also possible in the December shows.
I know it is Super Bowl Weekend. Show ends well before gametime. (Did you
REALLY want to watch the talking heads all afternoon?)
Any questions, my cell phone is 410-292-8758.
Hope to see a Tracker or two at the show this weekend. This is a really large
event, and usually well-attended.
